Urban street dance is daft

…for a figure skater. You see, I’ve been taught that all moves should be effortless, light, beautiful, smooth. Street dance is nothing but. If you are any good, it looks effortless, but the movement language is so not what I’m used to. And the tempo is really fast.

The whole rhythm count thing is different. As a synchro skater I count eights. You know, “one – two – three – four – five – six – seven – eight”. As a figure skater I don’t have to count. The melody and interpretation of it is more important.

But in dance, you count “one AND two AND three AND four”, so it’s double the amount of things one has to do. I’m too slow and “ballety dancery” (that is definetly not a word 😀 ) but it’s really nice to get out of my comfort zone.

What do you do that is out of your comfort zone?
