Tabata and skating

My skating team always has one hour before our ice in a kind of a dance room (mirrors on the other side of the room, windows looking out to ice rink on the other side) and on competing season we use the hour the go through the program. But as we are not competing this year, we use it for workouts. Mobility, strength and that kind of things.

Guess what we did today?

photoTabata! Eight sets of 20s action with 10s rests.

  • Hindu squats
  • Pushups
  • Jumping lunges
  • Mountain climbers
  • Crunches

Fairly effective, we are definitely doing this again. Maybe just skating full speed for 20s and then resting 10s?

Hey, that was reserved to me!

No, you idiot. The one treadmill out of six was not reserved to you, if you are not standing by it. If you are hanging around at the stationary bikes talking to your friend, you are not reserving a treadmill. Asshole. Oh, and next time, do not come standing on the damn treadmill while I’m already on it. I’m still fuming, it was so rude! If you want a one particular piece of equipment to your use, you just have to stand next to it. And not come yelling at someone who did not know you wanted to use that one treadmill because you were no where near it when she came there. ARGH!

It seems half of Spain was also at the gym tonight, but it was just normally annoying. And by annoying I mean the nuisance of too many people there at the same time. Too hard to go according to my routine, and I find it difficult to improvise in the middle of the workout. Maybe I really should consider turning myself to morning gym person… That will not be easy though. At mornings I prefer to sleep as long as possible, so I’m going to think about this a bit more.

My whole workout felt like pointless but I did something anyway.

  • Dumbbell bench press: 2 * 10, 14kg  2 * 5, 22kg
  • Triceps pushdown – rope: 4 * 10, 20kg
  • Biceps curl – rope: 4 * 10, 17,5kg
  • Overhead triceps extension: 3 * 10, 15kg
  • Overhead biceps curl: 3 * 10, 10kg
  • Wide-grip lat pulldown: 3 * 10, 40kg
  • Close-grip lat pulldown: 3 * 10, 40kg
  • Side planks: 2 * 20s/side
  • Planks: 8 * 20s/side with 10s breaks

Next gym on Thursday. Hopefully with a better flow.

Who is your favorite philosopher? This is tough one, since I really can’t say I have made friends with any. Or that I’m even remotely interested. Let’s go with Socrates. I know that name from somewhere.

What is your favorite number? 6. The nicest amount of reps. 10 is coming in 2nd place.

What is your favorite animal? Tigers. They are awesome.

What is your favorite time of day? Sitting in my sofa browsing internet -time.

What was your favorite holiday? There’s two. The first is interail which took me and my friends to Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Poland, Czech, Lithuania and Latvia (pics here). And then there’s my trip to Rwanda (pics here).

What is your favorite physical activity? Skating and going to the gym.

What is your passion? I’m gonna say working out. Fitness would be an overstatement, but I want to be in shape. Even sea lions have a shape you know 🙂

Friend Makin’ Monday: Getting to know each other

What is your favorite color? Blue. In all hues. Sky blue is the favorite.

Share one or more of your talents. I’m not sure if this is a talent or more like a skill learned, but I have a pretty good sense of my body when I’m moving. I mean that when I’m told that my back needs to be straight, I know it is. Credits go to skating I’d say.


If you were spending the day getting to know someone new, where would you want to go? Hanging around the city, parks, lake shore and that kind of thing.

What is your favorite meal? Everyone? Let’s go for lunch sushi from Maruseki and home-made BBQ-pizza for dinner.


Do you prefer to text or talk? Text, definitely.

Share something about yourself that might surprise someone that you’re getting to know. I have been a cheerleader for 2 years. I even got payed for that 😀

Do you color your hair? Yeah. I prefer to be blonde 🙂

What is your favorite breakfast food? Either oatmeal porridge or this really thick Turkish yoghurt with goji berries, müesli and honey.

Would your friends say that you’re sarcastic? I’d be sad if they didn’t.

Do you prefer salty or sweet? Salty!

What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex? Arms and the general appearance. Oh and the pants. Gotta have long enough pants. If looking the guy from behind, then first thing is shoulders and second is ass.

What is the last movie you watched? Legally Blonde 2 😀

Are you religious? Not at all.


Are you a neat freak, a slob, or somewhere in between? Total slob. I do try my best, but I’m still a slob.

Share something from your bucket list that you hope to do someday. Go climbing and pole dancing. And have a vacation where I can lazy around the hotel pool all the time.

Are you a risk taker, or do you prefer to play it safe? Both. Nowadays perhaps more on the safe playing side.


Have you ever worn braces? Sure. Hated every minute of it.

Would you rather spend an evening at a theater or at a club? A club! If there’s a decent band, like System of a Down.

If you could have three wishes, what would one of them be? Money, health, love&happines. The last thing counts as one thing, doesn’t it? 🙂

Going nowhere

How do you people kill time before classes to start? I had today extra 30min before spinning class. Just out of pure boredom, I ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes. I ran little over 2k, at 8,5km/h.

This was my first time of Les Mills Spinning. All good, but I think I prefer the other classes, where the instructor can choose their own music. Rammstein, Volbeat and that kind of music anytime for me. It’s a bit bore when Les Mills tends to recycle their songs, there’s a limit for how many versions of Adele’s Someone like you one can listen… (Thank heavens it wasn’t on RPM’s track list.)

After the spinning class I just felt a bit stupid that I had just spent an hour pretty much working my butt of to go nowhere…

Weekly wrap-up, 4/2013

A little more than last week, all three kinds of stuff done: strength, cardio and stretching.

More squats

Sunday gym and legs. I prefer working out legs any time. Biceps curls seem so boring for some reason. I also have this irrational fear of growing Hulk-shoulders (which is not going to actually happen ever in real life) which also makes me kind of hate working out arms. Stupid? Yes, it is.

  • Squats: 10 * 20kg, 10 * 35kg, 10 * 40kg, 10 * 45kg, 10 * 50kg
  • Romanian deadlifts: 6 * 6, 50kg
  • Bent over barbell row: 4 * 6, 50kg
  • Deadlifts: 10 *20kg, 6 * 50kg, 6 * 55kg, 6 * 60kg, 6 * 65kg
  • Bench press: 3 * 6, 40kg ( I did this only to achieve a quest in Fitocracy, so sad isn’t it?)
  • Pistol squats: 3 * 6/leg, 5kg kettle bell
  • Suspended crunch with TRX: 3 * 8

Quite ok. I intended to do one legged squats with TRX, but the TRX was taken. It’s always free, I don’t know what the hell happend. But did pistol squats then. I remember when I was younger, we always did them when doing strength training as figure skaters. And I wasn’t that good in them then either…

I thought about going skiing today after gym, but didn’t feel like it. Now I have been just laying on the couch watching Netflix instead 😀 I’m addicted to British crime series… They are much more fun than American ones. Not too many pretty people and much more sarcasm and irony!
