Selkä, joka ei pyöristy

Luistelussa olennaisinta on ryhti.

Usch. Päälläseisontaa tulis nimittäin harjoiteltua siinäkin. Se alkaa tuntua jo mahdolliselta nimittäin. Että voisi seistä päällään jossain kohtaa siis ilman että kaveri pitää kiinni.

Warning, men in the shower

I sort of been missing my mojo at the gym. I haven’t really had any plans or any good program to follow, so it has been a drag even going to the gym. There has been a lot of talk in Finnish training blogs about this Muscle Challenge. It’s created by Jari “Bull” Mentula, who is a professional bodybuilder and that kind of stuff. The challenge works so that you register to their website, and for ten weeks you get a workout program for each week and you also get instructions on what to eat. So I registered and today I got my instructions. Let’s just say I’m not going to follow the program or the food stuff by the book, but already I got some ideas on what to do at the gym. In the original program for this week there’s 5 workouts at the gym, but I did a bit combining and reduction (as I’m not looking for building much muscle or that, I’m just looking for some fresh ideas for me regarding the gym) and came up with my own 10-week muscle challenge, muscle challenge lite 🙂

Today’s workout combined back and chest:

Allouts: lat pulldown (2*6*50kg), dumbbell row (2*10*10kg)

Giant sets (2 rounds of 8 reps each, slowly): deadlifts (50kg), seated row (30kg), barbell row (30kg)

Allouts: Smith incline chest press (2*6*25kg), dumbbell bench press (2*10*12kg)

Giants: Flyes (8kg), Dumbbell incline bench press (14kg), pushups

Abs: 3 rounds of 10 * crunches, 10 * leg raises

As in the original program theres 5 moves in each giant set, I probably should’ve done more rounds with my 3 moves. And I could’ve used more weights on Allouts, but hey, one lives and learns…

There were men working at my gym’s shower today. I’m not sure why the personel was sorry about it 😉

If you just really really want to snowboard?

What should one do, if sun has melted almost all the snow and you just really really want to snowboard? You bring your own snow, a sort of benji cord, couple of friends to help you out and go for it.

Simple 😉

There! Done it!

I ran the 15k. It was cold, rainy, and it also meant that I had to skip an evening with friends, but I did it. Here’s some data:

I have to admit, it wasn’t easy. First 5km my legs were kind of tired, and I honestly considered turning around and doing this some other time. The next 5km went pretty well, and 10 – 12 km felt really good. I kept steady 8.0km/h pace for the first 12km, but then the last 3km were slower.

Even though my calves are killing me now, I’m tired and hungry and I’m sure my legs are really stiff tomorrow, I’m happy that I did it. Now I’m more confident that I can finish the half marathon in September 2013. Maybe even under 2:30.

Happy ❤

  • Distance: 15.00km, Av.pace: 7:47min/km, Av. speed: 7.7km/h

And total amout of kilometers run this year: 109 km

The WCP International Race Weekend

Awesome Chris Barnes from Wisdom, Courage and Power invented this The WCP International Race Weekend. The point is to run at your own pace, and run as much as you want. It can be 1k, 4k, 10k or 22k. What ever you want. The race days are 26.-28.4.2013 and 3.-5.5.2013. All you have to do is decide the distance you want to do and go for it.

I promised to run 15k, and today is the day. I’m getting nervous 😀 I haven’t run 15k before, the longest run I’ve done is 12k. I’m hoping I’m gonna do this under 2 hours, and that my legs don’t kill me… We did some jumps and springs on Wednesday with my skaters, and my calves are a bit sore still 🙂

If you want to participate, all you have to do is attend to this Facebook -event. Or just comment your results to Chris and WCP’s Race page.

Stay tuned for the results!

Trying out: Bouldering

I promised in the beginning of this year that I’d try out 5 new sports. I asked for suggestions in here, in Facebook and in my Finnish blog. And this is what it got me to:

2013-02-04 18.38.31

I went bouldering today for the first time ever. And I enjoyed it. So much so that I want to go again. This will get me bankrupt this trying out new sports and falling for them, let me tell you.

My hands are sore and my fingers hurt, but there’s something exhilarating finally conquering that one wall and making it all the way up. And it’s cool to know that I’m capable of doing another thing I thought I couldn’t do because I’m too heavy. Apparently I’m not, or I have more strength I imagined. Either way, all good.

2013-02-04 18.38.39

Do go and try if you have a change, bouldering was great!

So one down, 5 to go. I know I know, I said five. But I just had to add gymnastics to the list. Had to.

  • Canoeing
  • Pole dancing
  • Water skiing
  • Bouldering/Climbing
  • Kiteboarding (this is kinda optional, since I learned that I’d need a snowboard or downhill skies and I don’t)
  • Gymnastics
  • Riding

(Edit: This is post number 200 in this blog, yay! Party anyone?)

Awards are pouring in: Sunshine award

I got this Sunshine award from Mimi, the determined blonde from other side of the Atlantic.

I’m not sure if I’m supposed to put the actual award image here, but I didn’t. I found this summer sunshine pic from my own files yesterday, and just wanted to use it 😀

If nominated for this award, you must include a link in your blog to the person/blog that nominated you. You must also answer some questions about yourself, nominate 10 fellow bloggers, link their blogs in your post, and inform them that they have been nominated.

I’ll skip the nominating, since I already nominated fellow bloggers (and I don’t know more…). So if you want to take part, go ahead and link your post to my comment box (there’s room, don’t worry).

Who is your favorite philosopher? This is tough one, since I really can’t say I have made friends with any. Or that I’m even remotely interested. Let’s go with Socrates. I know that name from somewhere.

What is your favorite number? 6. The nicest amount of reps. 10 is coming in 2nd place.

What is your favorite animal? Tigers. They are awesome.

What are your Facebook and Twitter? I’m on Facebook with three accounts… My personal one, and I have an account for both of my blogs: Confessions of a Gym Bunny and Etkaisäänymuavarte.

What is your favorite time of day? Sitting in my sofa browsing internet -time.

What was your favorite holiday? There’s two. The first is interail which took me and my friends to Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Poland, Czech, Lithuania and Latvia (pics here). And then there’s my trip to Rwanda (pics here).

What is your favorite physical activity? Skating and going to the gym.

What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink? Pepsi Max or Diet Coke.

What is your favorite flower? I don’t know the name, but this:

What is your passion? I’m gonna say working out. Fitness would be an overstatement, but I want to be in shape. Even sea lions have a shape you know 🙂

There! Thanks again Mimi! 🙂

I signed to half-marathon. In September.

Maybe I should start running then?

Wrapping up 2012 and a New Year’s resolution

2012 was a great workout year. I didn’t quite get to my goal though:

1%! God dammit. But well, next year and I will get that 100%. I will.

362 workout hours is not that bad. Next year and 400?

Screen shot 2012-12-31 at 3.41.19 PM

There was a little motivation issues in April, but nothing really bad. I did all sorts of workouts, here’s some of them:

Gym and skating were definitely the two favorite ones, let’s see how this turns out in 2013. I decided that my resolution for 2013 is to try out 6 new sports. Feel free to suggest what I should try out in the comment box!

Happy new year you all, let’s see you at the gym!

Wrap-up, November challenge and shameless self-promotion – all in one!

I stumbled upon this November fitness challenge in Chris Barns’s blog and decided to take part. I’ll write the answers to all challenge questions on Sundays, as a part of the weekly wrap-up.

Wrap-up looks like this this week:

  • Monday: Pilates
  • Tuesday: Street dance
  • Wednesday: Gym, skating
  • Thursday:
  • Friday: Tabata at the gym with PT
  • Saturday: Skating, hanging around at the gym
  • Sunday: Skating and gym

Not that hard this week, but I feel the gym in my muscles…

And then the challenge:

Day 1. What are your goals for November? Well, get closer to the actual pull-ups, loose some weight and just enjoy exercising.

Day 2. Give 5 strategies you are using to keep the holiday pounds off. I only have 2 strategies: First, do not overeat. Second, keep up with the workout routine. That should do it.

Day 3. What would you tell a friend who wanted to quit? Depends on what the friend is going to quit.

Day 4. Please share your favorite clean eating breakfast recipe. A bowl of oat meal, cottage cheese and loads of berries. Easy! Even I can do it 🙂

And then there is the self-promotion part! I created a Facebook page, go and like this blog!
