Friend Makin’ Monday: Chris edition

Since people are at something called Fitbloggin’ (I have no idea what it is, does anyone else), Chris made up a list to answer for this Monday:

1. Did you set goals for the year?  (I don’t necessarily mean weight loss or fitness goals even.  Did you set out to learn to draw? complete a task?  Go skydiving?)
I set up a goal to try out new things. And so far I’ve tried out poledancing and rock climbing!

2. It’s the half way point of the year, how are you progressing on your goals?
Weightlosswise: not that well. Being happy -wise: very well.

3. It’s a long weekend here in Canada and I know my American followers get the 4th off.  How are you celebrating your countries birthday / Independence?
In Finland the celebrations for the independence day a quite unique when compared to other countries carnivals and day of fun. Here we kind of quiet down (I know, a Finn quieting down sounds funny, but it’s true) and we honor those who fought in  WW2 against Russia and made sure we could keep our independence. The other thing we do is that we watch the celebrations the president is having at his castle. Basically we eat and watch on tv when 2000 people shake hands with the president and his wife. And then we laugh and criticize ladies’ dresses.

4.  Have you ever shot a gun?
I once went for a shooting range and shot couple of times. Not my cup of tea. It was scary.

5. If your spouse or significant other was at work all weekend, every weekend how would you spend your time?
I’d lazy around the home, see my friends, go to the gym and that kinda stuff.

6.  Do you have a pet that had some weird habit?
No pets 😦

7.  Would you rather go Skydiving or Bungee Jumping? (you can’t say neither)
Skydiving. Though both options scare the shit out of me.

8.  What’s your favourite board game?
Trivial Pursuit. The 1985 version of it. If there’s a question about a country, the safest bet is to answer Soviet Union.

9.  Where would you like to go on a day trip? (In other words, what is exciting near you?
I’d go for a boat ride on Lake Pyhäjärvi.

10.  What is one thing you can’t live without?
My computer. I’m a geek.

Bonus question: Who is your favourite person you follow on Twitter? The fake Elizabeth Windsor!

No, one is not on Big Brother. This is partly because one is busy ruling the country, and mainly because one is not a moron.

Friend Makin’ Monday – Just wondering

1.  Do you wear glasses and/or contacts? I wear glasses when I remember to. And sometimes contacts.

Photo on 2012-01-04 at 21.49 #3

3.  What is your favorite food to eat for breakfast? I eat my breakfast at work, and lately it has been cup of coffee, a pear or an apple and one or two boiled eggs. Before I leave home, I have couple of cups of coffee 🙂

4. Do you enjoy window shopping? Not really. Maybe our store windows are so boring?

5. What is your favorite candle scent? I have two scented candles. The other is coffee (which is great) and the other is chocolate (which is a bit too overbearing).

6.  If you had to choose between going to a zoo or an aquarium, which one would you pick? Zoo! Tigers! Wombats! Do I need to say more?

5-wombat-1-2-6-4-2-1-2-3-4-1

7.  How many times do you plan to exercise this week? It midsummer party weekend, but I’m going to say I will do 5 exercises. Or at least try to make time for five.

8.  Do you speak another language fluently? I speak English fluently, Swedish well but not so fluently. I also speak a little French, German and Icelandic.

9.  What are you currently reading? I book by Anne Holt, a creepy detective story.

10.  What are you looking forward to most in the coming week? The midsummer night on Saturday! Because in Finland midsummer is a big deal. And because the sun doesn’t go down.

Friend Makin’ Monday: Questions, questions

1. Do you use coupons? Not really.

2. How often do you weigh yourself? Sometimes everyday, sometimes once a week and at the moment maybe once every two weeks.

3. What was your favorite TV show as a kid? Cosby show!

4. How often do you drink alcohol? When I feel like it. I’m pretty typical Finn in this. I don’t go to have a pint or two, I go and get wasted when I drink. 😀 But well, I’d say I drink maybe once a month. Or not even that.

5. Have you ever met a celebrity or public figure that you really admire?  I’ve met Saku Koivu. He’s one of the greatest hockey players. Oh, and I’ve seen Teemu Selänne wearing just a towel. Hello you couple of weirdos who ended up here googleing “Teemu Selänne wearing towel”.

6. If you had to choose between only your cell phone or only your laptop all week which would you choose? Tricky one this one. I use my phone to record my workouts, to read emails, to use FB and to listen music. Which is the same as I do with my laptop. But I’d go without a phone for a week.

7. What is your favorite brand of detergent? I use soapnuts. Hippy me.

8. If there was a movie about your life, who would play the role? Jared Leto and Johnny Depp. Because in my movie, I can sing and I can be a pirate. It’s about the story, not about the truth!

9. What book are you currently reading? One about ashtanga yoga.

10. If you could spend one day on vacation anywhere in the world, which place would you choose? New Zealand.

Friend Makin’ Mondays: 20 questions

Share something that you enjoy doing when you’re alone. Blasting embarrassing tunes like NKOTB and singing along.

What do you plan to eat next? An apple. Snack time!

When did you first travel on a plane?  Where did you go? I was 19 and went to Iceland.

Do you currently have a crush on someone?  If so, share a few of the reasons why. Of course I do 🙂 He’s warm, kind, funny and overall the best.

List one thing that disgusts you that probably wouldn’t bother someone else. Insides of the tomato.

If you could buy a new car tomorrow (and money was no object) what would you buy?

VW-T1b-Bus-Normalausführung-Fr

Who was the first person who broke your heart? No naming here 😀

If you could spend the night with a celebrity tonight, who would it be? By spending a night I’ll take it as a dinner and hanging around. And I’d say Seth Rogers. He’s funny 😀

Are you a morning person or a night person? I’m definetly not a morning person, even though I prefer getting to work early. Today I woke up at 6:30 AM, and was at work at 7:20 AM. But I’m more like early-evening-person.

What’s your favorite board game? Monopoly and Alias.

Can you play an instrument? If so, what do you play? I can play piano just a bit. I took classes for couple of years. But I wouldn’t play publicly.

What is the last thing you ate? An apple. (It’s past snack time already). But for lunch I had chicken curry sauce and rice.

Do you wear a watch? No I don’t.

Do you go to church? No unless I really have to. Like a wedding or a funeral.

Do you ever wish on stars? Everytime!

Have you ever been on a motorcycle? Yeah. It’s fun. I even considered getting one of my own, but turns out they are bit expensive. Not to mention the cost of the driving licence for a motorbike.

What is the last thing you purchased? My lunch.

How big is your bed? 160cm wide. I’m not sure if it makes it king or queen or what…

What size shoe do you wear? 37-38 in Europe sizes, 7 or 7.5 in US sizes.

What are you looking forward to most in the coming week? Weekend! 😀 Well today is some improvisation theater and on Wednesday it’s skating.

Friend Makin’ Monday: Childhood Flashbacks

Did you have a set bedtime as a child?  If so, what was it? I remember it being 9PM. On Saturdays I got to stay up until 9:30PM 😀

Were you taught to be a member of the “Clean Plate Club?” Did it have affect your eating habits as an adult? I didn’t. We had this “You eat what you get on your plate, and you can always have some more. But let’s not waste food”-club. I wouldn’t say it has affected my eating habits as an adult at all.

Share one thing that you were not allowed to do as a child. I can’t remember that many things to be honest. I was a pretty independent kid, since my mom was a single parent. I got a home key with me and I was allowed to play outside as much as I wanted. Of course there were limits where I could go, and I was a good kid, I didn’t break the rules. Well, maybe sometimes we went 50m over the told lines, but no more.

What is the cheapest gas price you can remember? The gas prices here are now about 1,67€ to 1,70€ per litre. That would make it 8,12$ – 8,26$ per gallon. It’s hard to say the cheapest, since before prices were in Finnish marks and not Euros. But I have a vague recollection that one litre was 5 FIM or less. Which would make it 0,8€ / liter (3,89$/gallon).

What was your favorite thing on the playground? Swings! And jumping off them. And the rope things you could climb on. Like this:

RS115

Share one thing that your parents always made you do that you didn’t like doing. Clean up my room.

Do you remember your first kiss?  If so, share the details! I was probably 13 or 14, it was my first boyfriend and it happened on our way from school. 🙂

Did you prefer to play inside or outside? Both. I was happy to be outside, but insides were good too. I played a lot alone, but that’s not to say I was lonely or that I didn’t have any friends. I just liked being by myself.

What was your favorite TV show growing up? Bergerac, Der Alte. And I remember when we started to have MusicTV. I would almost be late from school, since I just had to watch Vanilla Ice and Ice Ice Baby. From our very very small black and white tv. Oh the happy times 😀

Share one awesome childhood memory. The best memories are from our summer house. All my cousins and aunts and uncles and mom and grandma and grandpa were there, and we played, made pancakes, swam in the ocean and that sort of thing. One midsummer we were at the cottage as usual, sitting by the fire (there was like 30 of us at least) when a sail boat approached, anchored and two people we didn’t know came to shore. My grandpa went to talk to them, and as a result those two joined our little evening meal. They had seen the tents and a lot of people, and thought that it’s a camping place…

Bonus: Share a picture of yourself as a child.

I’m in a rush to get to the sea 😀

Friend Makin’ Monday: Ten Questions

1. Describe the kind of home you would live in if money were no object.

castle_1

A castle or a luxury loft smack in the middle of let’s say New York.

2. Are you more conservative in your actions or more rebellious? I’d love to say I’m a rebel, but I’m not. I’m happy to walk along the golden medium.

3. Would you go to Mars even if it meant you could never return to Earth? No way. I like this little blue planet too much.

4. Name one song that makes you want to dance every time you hear it. Kuningasidea and a song “Enemmän duuoo kun sooloo”. (Or as it translates “More duets than solos”)

5. Share one thing that you wish you could go back and do differently in your life. I wish I could me the 20-year-old me and tell her that it’s not worth it to get fat. 😀

6. Share at least one accomplishment that people wouldn’t expect you to be proud of. I’m pretty good producing student musicals. Or was. As I’m not a student anymore. Oh, and I’ve been a cheerleader.

7. Describe one delicious thing that you’ve eaten lately. Blueberry cheese cake at friend’s wedding.

8. If you had a theme song that would play every time you entered a room, which song would you choose?

9. Has technology enhanced your life, or has it over complicated your life? Definetly enhanced. And since I am a designer, so I would be out of work without technology…

10. If you could get paid to do any job, which job would you choose? I’d be a writer and an artist.

Friend Makin’ Monday: Let’s get personal

How old would you feel if you didn’t know how old you are? I’d say something between 25 and 30. A bit wiser than a 20 year old, I guess.

Are you the kind of friend you’d want to have as a friend? Is there any other answer than yes of course I am?

426425_10151397901963043_1548778886_n

Look back at the last year.  When did you feel most excited about something in your life? I found love!

Have you ever been with someone and not spoken a word, only to walk away thinking that was the best conversation ever? I’m a Finn. “Silence is golden” we say, and we mean it. It’s easy and natural for us to be quiet together. We do talk (we are not totally shy and mute folks) but we don’t feel the need to break the silence.

If you won 100 million dollars Monday, would you continue doing whatever you usually do on Tuesdays? Depends if I get the money on Monday to my bank account! If I do, I’d take vacation from work for a month or so and just hang around.

485967_10151397902013043_71734934_n

“Do not leave the ferry before it has docked.” in three ways: Turku dialect, Finnish and Swedish.

What would you do differently if you knew no one would judge you? This was a tough one. Nothing comes to mind.

Share something you do differently than most people. I dip franfurters in banana yoghurt.

What’s one thing that you really want to do that you’ve never done? I want to spend a holiday at some paradise island.

If you had to move out of state right now, where would you move? I’d move to Naantali (my old home town where almost all my relatives live).

What is the one thing that you’d like to change most about the world? World peace and other Miss Universe answers will do.

Friend Makin’ Monday: Foooooood

What did you eat for dinner last night? This will sound really bad. But 5 cupcakes. Yeah, that was my dinner.

If you could make one food calorie-free for the next year, What would you choose? I’d go for ice cream! All tastes.

How often do you go to the grocery store? Maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

Do you make a list before buying groceries? About 60% of the time. I do think about what we need before going to the store, but I don’t always write it down. We think about what do we want to eat for dinner for the next 3 or 4 days and go from there.

List three things that can always be found in your kitchen. Coffee, milk and curd.

How often do you clean out your fridge? Every now and then. But there are things in there that I don’t even want to know how old they are…

Do you ever use a slow cooker? If so, will you share a recipe? No, i don’t use one since I don’t have one.

How often do you try new recipes? Sometimes weekends. I cook with this “maybe if I’ll throw this in too” -method, which is also know as trial-and-error-method. That is the reason why my boyfriend does the most of the cooking.

What is the most delicious meal(s) you make? I made great pizza on Saturday! It had crushed tomatoes and pesto, black pepper marinated chicken, bell peppers, cheese and blue cheese. Yummy!

Share at least one thing that is currently in your kitchen even though you don’t like it. Mustard. And hot sauces. The ones which have skull and bones on the label (which for me means that the sauce is too hot for a normal person to even consider).

Friend Makin’ Monday: Spring

What spring? It looks like this here (pic):

Helsinki_cathedral

What do you love most about Spring? The fact that the snow mountains go away.

If you’re lucky enough to have a Spring Break, what will you do to enjoy it? We don’t have a concept called Spring Break, but we do have this thing called Skiing holidays. If I had not combined my holiday week with my Christmas holidays, I’d go some where warm. And preferably wouldn’t come back.

What is your favorite flower? Tulips.

Do you have a garden?  If so, what do you grow? I do! But I don’t grow anything. I just let things grow. I have an apple tree and a cherry tree. I have no idea what to do to make them grow, so I trust mother Nature on this one.

Share one thing that you hope to accomplish during Spring. I hope to loose 10 kg. And run 15 km. The latter is more important.

Do you do Spring cleaning? I should, and I probably will. We have to rebuild our closet and that most likely generates some cleaning business too. I hope I can skip the cleaning and just focus on the building part.

What is your weather *really* like right now? {Just b/c it’s almost Spring, doesn’t mean that it feels like it for some of you.}

photo (1)

Share one photo that you’ve taken during the month of March.

photo

What’s your favorite thing to do on a sunny afternoon? If there’s snow = stay in. If not = go out. Well, I do out if there’s snow, skiing and stuff. Or for a run.

If you could spend the day doing anything in your city, what would you do? I’d most likely would go to the gym and to the library. And have nice dinner at Näsinneula tower. (pic)

Friend Makin’ Monday: Blogger to Blogger

This week is about the blog. Let’s concentrate in this blog, and not the Finnish one.

1.  Does your blog have one overwhelming theme? Working out, training. Enjoying both.

2. How did you come up with the theme(s) for your blog? Was it intentional? It was intentional for two reasons (or more). I didn’t want to turn my Finnish whining -blog into “look at me, I’m at the gym” so it felt correct to start purely a training blog. Also, it’s fun to blog in English too. And I’ve been reading Kenlie’s blog and wanted to take part in these FMM-posts 🙂

3.  Share something cool that has happened in your life as a result of blogging. It has definitely made all communications with Tiiti to end (well not really, we do still share the whine almost every day) since we don’t have to talk about our workouts. We just read each other’s blogs.

4. How much time to do spend reading blogs everyday? Well it depends on how many of the blogs I follow have been updated. From 10 minutes to an hour?

5.  Do you blog on the weekends? Why not?

6.  Do you keep track of your stats?  Do they matter to you? I keep track with Google Analytics and with WordPress stats. I’m just curious and even though I don’t get that many comments it cool to know how many people have been reading this and from which countries.

7. How do you decide how much to share about your personal life? I share what I want to. I don’t restrict too much, but I’m not telling absolutely everything.

8. Do you aspire to be a writer, or did blogging happen for some other reason? Blogging is just fun. And it’s a diary too. And a workout diary.

9. As a blogger, do you think it’s more important to write for yourself, or for your readers? I think it’s both. It’s important that my writings are interesting to read. But I also think that if my posts are not interesting for someone, then that someone does not read my blog. And I can’t write if I’m not interested about the subject.

10.  What kind of plans do you have for the future of your blog? I’ll just keep on writing, no great plans 🙂
