Turn off your mind

BodyJam Tuesday! This was a very special occasion. For couple of reasons. First, I don’t usually do Jam on Tuesday. It’s a Monday-night-magic-thing. Tuesday is gym day. It feels odd to be home and think that “crap it only Monday night, oh wait, it’s Tuesday!”. Not that I’m stuck with my routines or anything…

Second reason is that my boyfriend decided to come too. First time ever at BodyJam, and pretty much first time doing anything that has a choreography. He did well! Didn’t bump into me or the walls or anything like that. And he liked the class 🙂 I sold the class to him by saying there’s a lot of moves for upper body, and that makes the world of good for person who works in front of computer screen half a day. And I said that he’s a coward if he doesn’t at least try. Fair is not my middle name 😉 But as I’m such a kind girlfriend, I took him shopping afterwards. He went looking for running shoes, I entertained myself with my phone (a game of Monopoly).

BodyJam is great fun. This release 64 is really tough, it’s not difficult but I burned about 600kcal and my max heart rate was over 180. It’s easiest just turn off your mind and just go with the music and party. When I first started going to Jam, I was really self-conscious. I still am. I pick my place so that I can’t see myself from the mirror and just dance away. I don’t really pay attention to others, how they dance (unless they are a) really good or b) in my way or c) somehow annoying (like 2 teenaged girls who kept stopping in the middle of choreography to chat…). I’m pretty confident that others don’t really pay too much attention to me, so I just go ahead and dance like I’m the superstar on a music video. Turn off your mind, and just dance.

What have you been up today?

Late bloomer

I’m always a bit late with these Les Mills classes. The new routines comes, and I’m like “well, it’s too crowded this week, I’ll go next week”. The next week comes, and I don’t go. Then after the new routine is a month old, and everyone else knows it, then I go. No pressure! This new BodyJam is great great great! Definitely going again next Monday. The house routine, oh dear! Love it!

Besides finding BodyJam again, I’ve been making smoothies. There’s couple of things I’ve learned:

  • it’s all about the colors of the ingredients
  • no matter how careful you try to be, you end up with a suspiciously brown smoothie

But tonight I managed to make a nice one, which was sweet but not too sweet and not at all brownish color! Here’s the ingredients/recipe:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of red currants
  • 1 spoon of turkish yoghurt
  • about half a cup of lemon&orange juice, or just orange juice
  • oatmeal flakes

Do you have any favorite smoothie recipes to share? Please do so 🙂

Jamming

I haven’t been dancing for ages.. And today’s BodyJam proved it. We were mostly mixing, since our instructor just got the new Jam-dvd in her hands today. Literally.

Basic endurance training is much more fun when it’s done dancing… It just might not be as efficient as running when keeping in mind the half-marathon-goal. Good for me, September is far away, so I can dance and say it counts for running!

Grappling jam

Basic Monday, Grappling circuit before BodyJam. Today I did the circuit 8 times, 2 for warm-up and 6 for serious business 😉

  • Bent over row * 8
  • Upright row * 8
  • Military press * 8
  • Good morning * 8
  • Split squats * 8/leg
  • Squat * 8
  • Dead lift * 8

First round was with 5kg, second with 7kg and the actual workout was with 17kg. Go me!

BodyJam was fun as always, although my poor calves were really sore after Sunday and it was quite difficult (and do I have to mention painful) to dance 🙂 Tomorrow is massage day, finally! And maybe some dancing too. Maybe. I know, I should take a day off when getting a massage, but the dance thing is not THAT hard. Right?

Monday Magic: Circuit + BodyJam

The grappling circuit is great little workout to do before some aerobic thing like BodyJam. I’m still trying to figure out the weights and rhythm which works for me, but I’m getting closer.

  • Bent over row * 8
  • Upright row * 8
  • Military press * 8
  • Good morning * 8
  • Split squats * 8/leg
  • Squat * 8
  • Dead lift * 8

Today I started with two warm-up rounds: 6 reps / move, with 5kg weights. After that, it was circuit time. 17kg weights and 8 reps / move. Now we are beginning to talk. I’m pretty sure I could do this with 20kg, and that might just be my goal for next month 🙂

And the BodyJam, great as usual ❤ I really like the house choreography, and I’m starting to learn the program by heart, so I can focus on having fun and not the steps.

Good start for this week!

Circuit and BodyJam equals good Monday

Why is it that Mondays typically suck? Like pouring salt into the wounds, I had a very difficult meeting to top of my not-so-great-Monday. Luckily, the gym saved me. It always does. If I feel bad and life sucks, gym helps. I did circuit training before BodyJam, and for some reason I now feel the effects in my legs. Or maybe I just danced more than usual 🙂

Circuit moves stayed the same, but I used 15kg instead of 10kg. And it was still a bit easy. So maybe bigger weights next time. Six rounds, 1 minute of rest between rounds.

  • Bent over row * 8
  • Upright row * 8
  • Military press * 8
  • Good morning * 8
  • Split squats * 8/leg
  • Squat + push press * 8
  • Dead lift * 8

At Jam, the instructor made us change places between songs. You “had to” give high-five to two people and then change place. It was actually fun, and I ended up in the front row. Me. Front row. At BodyJam. I mean, I’m the girl who hides in the back corner. The corner in which it is basically impossible to see oneself from the mirror. But well, I just didn’t look as daft as I thought. So maybe next time I’ll pick my place differently 🙂

My legs are really really tired, so maybe a little bit of stretching before sleep…

Jamming and unfortunate gym

I was supposed to hit the gym today, but apparently some higher gym spirits decided that it’s not going to happen. I left work and had plenty of time before stretching class. I had already changed almost all my workout gear on when I notice that I didn’t have 50c coin to lock my locker. Back downstairs and to the reception to buy something in order to get that coin. Then back upstairs to change rest of the gear. Well, no top. Quick change of gear, dash to the closest H&M to get the top, back to the gym, change again. And I had only 30min left before the stretching and Bodyjam 🙂 Well done me!

BF hade made me dinner, and I decided to take him to the Pyynikki observation tower. Only because they make the best donuts in Tampere. And I wanted a donut.

So, how was your Monday? Any better?
