Weekly wrap-up (and annoying instructors), 17/2013

Nice week. Except the fact that I managed to pick the rainy days as my running days. But it’s better to run in the rain, you automatically run faster so that you’ll get home quicker.

Today I planned to do a gym day (arms and upper body) but I ended up going to pump. I decided to go easy on the legs, since they are still bit sore after Friday. The annoying part came right in the beginning on the squats (and later on in the lunges) when the instructor kept looking at me and saying things like “you can do it, it’s not that hard“, “you can do this with lighter weights” and (my personal favorite) “it’s not a squat if you go fortyfive degrees, do a ninety“. I mean she was all nice and cheering, but I was intentionally going easy with the legs and it annoyed the hell out of me 😀 I almost shouted that “hey lady, I know. I’m not tired, I just want to take these couple of songs easy” 😀 And she was looking at me all the time while saying these things, that’s why I know she intended them to me… Annoying!

Turn off your mind

BodyJam Tuesday! This was a very special occasion. For couple of reasons. First, I don’t usually do Jam on Tuesday. It’s a Monday-night-magic-thing. Tuesday is gym day. It feels odd to be home and think that “crap it only Monday night, oh wait, it’s Tuesday!”. Not that I’m stuck with my routines or anything…

Second reason is that my boyfriend decided to come too. First time ever at BodyJam, and pretty much first time doing anything that has a choreography. He did well! Didn’t bump into me or the walls or anything like that. And he liked the class 🙂 I sold the class to him by saying there’s a lot of moves for upper body, and that makes the world of good for person who works in front of computer screen half a day. And I said that he’s a coward if he doesn’t at least try. Fair is not my middle name 😉 But as I’m such a kind girlfriend, I took him shopping afterwards. He went looking for running shoes, I entertained myself with my phone (a game of Monopoly).

BodyJam is great fun. This release 64 is really tough, it’s not difficult but I burned about 600kcal and my max heart rate was over 180. It’s easiest just turn off your mind and just go with the music and party. When I first started going to Jam, I was really self-conscious. I still am. I pick my place so that I can’t see myself from the mirror and just dance away. I don’t really pay attention to others, how they dance (unless they are a) really good or b) in my way or c) somehow annoying (like 2 teenaged girls who kept stopping in the middle of choreography to chat…). I’m pretty confident that others don’t really pay too much attention to me, so I just go ahead and dance like I’m the superstar on a music video. Turn off your mind, and just dance.

Hey, that was reserved to me!

No, you idiot. The one treadmill out of six was not reserved to you, if you are not standing by it. If you are hanging around at the stationary bikes talking to your friend, you are not reserving a treadmill. Asshole. Oh, and next time, do not come standing on the damn treadmill while I’m already on it. I’m still fuming, it was so rude! If you want a one particular piece of equipment to your use, you just have to stand next to it. And not come yelling at someone who did not know you wanted to use that one treadmill because you were no where near it when she came there. ARGH!

It seems half of Spain was also at the gym tonight, but it was just normally annoying. And by annoying I mean the nuisance of too many people there at the same time. Too hard to go according to my routine, and I find it difficult to improvise in the middle of the workout. Maybe I really should consider turning myself to morning gym person… That will not be easy though. At mornings I prefer to sleep as long as possible, so I’m going to think about this a bit more.

My whole workout felt like pointless but I did something anyway.

  • Dumbbell bench press: 2 * 10, 14kg  2 * 5, 22kg
  • Triceps pushdown – rope: 4 * 10, 20kg
  • Biceps curl – rope: 4 * 10, 17,5kg
  • Overhead triceps extension: 3 * 10, 15kg
  • Overhead biceps curl: 3 * 10, 10kg
  • Wide-grip lat pulldown: 3 * 10, 40kg
  • Close-grip lat pulldown: 3 * 10, 40kg
  • Side planks: 2 * 20s/side
  • Planks: 8 * 20s/side with 10s breaks

Next gym on Thursday. Hopefully with a better flow.

 

Mandatory gym

I have had to adjust my routines quite a bit. You see, I was bodyshopped to customer’s premises, which means that all my basic routines are in shambles. I usually went to the gym straight from work (5min walk). Now that doesn’t work (unless I have access rights to customer’s gym, which I’m going to check tomorrow). Now I have been coming home from work to eat, then waited an hour or so and then went on to exercise. Which sucks. I feel tired and just want to stay at home. Luckily for me, bf has been making the food ready, so I can just come home and eat. Lucky me ❤

I’m a slave to my habits, and I don’t really want to go to the gym except straight from work during the week. So let’s hope I can use customer’s gym!

  • Dumbbell bench press: 4 * 6 * 20kg
  • Leg raises: 4 * 15
  • Cable bicep curl: 4 * 8 * 15kg (with a bar)
  • Cable tricep pushdown: 4 * 10 * 17,5kg (with a bar)
  • Hyperextension: 3 * 12 * 10kg
  • Dips: 4, 3, 2, 1
  • Russian twists: 3 * 15/side
  • Lateral raises: 3 * 10 * 9kg

So today wasn’t particularly fun gym day. But it said on the calendar that gym day it is, so I went. Plus to my great joy,  Carlos the Circuit Man was there too. Annoying the shit out of people again…

New Year’s Resolution rush at the gym

I thought I was being clever when I moved my gymtime from 16:00 to 19:30. Oh man I was wrong. The place was packed!

And in top of that, there was this co-trainee from hell. You know the dude. It’s rush hour at the gym and he decides to do circuit training. He uses squat & deadlift spot for pushups, pullups and military presses. He disappears for so long that people think the squat place is empty, but no it isn’t. He’s just doing dips and talking to some pretty blondes 😀 Oh man. It’s fine to do circuit, but a little consideration would go far. I mean, there’s two squat/deadlift spots at the gym. He had the other one, and the other was used by me, my bf and a third dude. We got along just fine, since the recovery times and all went pretty well together. No harm done there. But man it was annoying! Stop that if you are reading this! You had a green shirt, and you did pushups with one arm. Shame on you 😀

Well, back to me then. I look like I’m bald. Nice 😀

I ran out of time, and I didn’t do my decline situps. Next time then. Remember to look here next time at the gym! Also to be noted: I squatted 1,2*my own bodyweight! Not with perfect technique, but still. I’m going to stick with those weights for awhile and get better and deeper squats 🙂
