Why does the iron have to weigh so much?

Oh boy, difficult gym today. It just didn’t go at all. Struggling, no flow at all… I hate these kind of days, I really do.

Remember the E-Z bar I wondered wether it’s 8kg or 14kg? I thought it was 14kg and a friend of mine thought it’s 8kg. It’s 14kg. I weighed the bar just to make sure. I guess now there’s one happy girl whose bicep curl weights just went up!

I may look daft, but at least I’m a bit safer

I did go to the gym today, but let’s get to that later. You see, my salary came and I went straight to the sports gear store. I got myself a new pair of running shoes. They are barefoot kind, very very light and apparently they are “natural” what ever that means. And look how pretty they are!

Tomorrow is running day, so maybe I’ll try these ones! I also bought myself a bicycle helmet. Remember I complained how ugly they are! But look, this is quite pretty too:

The only problem is that it’s me who is making the helmet look daft. It’s my fault, not the helmets. But I’m going to be the one at the supermarket, walking around in trainers and a bike helmet on her head. You know the type…

I’ve kind of deteriorated in what it comes to appearances. Today at work I realized that I actually wanted to leave my cap on because my hair was so messy and in need of a washing. Since practically every day afterwork I go and do some sports, I find it too hard to put on a nice blouse and a skirt. It’s a pain in the ass to wear them again after gym to go home. Maybe I should start carrying a pair of jogging pants and sneakers in my car, so I can change them on after work. It’s not that I would’ve been a fashionista before, but now things just have gone south 😀 I mean I used to care that my scarf would match the jacket at least somehow… So it doesn’t really bother me that I look daft with the helmet on. At least I get to a kinda free-pass to look daft in other ways too!

I started this Golden Six -stuff just little over a month ago. I’ve red from different forums that results are “visible” in about three months. If you train 3 times a week. But I think I’ve made some results already. Not so much that I’d take pics to show off, but enough to list my weights! They have improved, which is good!

  • Squats: 35kg -> 55kg (I do below parallel, before I didn’t, hence the small starting out weight)
  • Bench press: 35kg -> 42,5kg
  • Lat machine: 40kg -> 55kg
  • Overhead press: 15kg -> 27,5kg
  • Bicep curl: 12kg -> 21,5kg
  • Situps: 3 * 20 -> 4 * 17, 5kg

*Edit: It might be that the bar I use with biceps might not be 14kg, but 8kg. Have to check that one! 🙂

Gym, Wedding and Fallout

Wasn’t too many people at the gym, pretty nice and quiet 😀 A little of blurry it was though… I managed to add weights to most of the sets, great! Today, iron was light. So probably next time I will fail in so many ways and feel like week like a 95-year-old granny.

After workout it was time to run around the town. To get a shirt and stockings and a card and all kinds of gear. First it was a wedding and after that it was a theme party. The wedding was awesome, more like a open stage jam evening then a formal wedding. And I got to look like a girl! No track pants and training tops! Hair and makeup and all that shit, fun 🙂

The wedding party was over at 23, and we headed to another party. I decided to be the designated driver, since I really don’t like the hangovers anymore. Call me old, but I want to enjoy my Sundays and not spend them hoping I’d die, and then being afraid that I don’t die. But the theme of this party was Fallout. Apparently it’s some kind of a game, which occurs after the end of the world. Now I don’t know anything about games or fallouts, and I was a bit lost on what to wear. I tried to ask advice, but then I figured that if it really is the end of the world, the wisest thing to do is to hitchhike to another galaxy. I have red my hitchhiker’s guide to galaxy 😉

Towel, duck tape, thumbs, swimming goggles and comfortable shoes. That’s all I’d need if the world should end. What would you do if that would happen?

Light weights buddy! And it does matter what you wear at the gym

Let’s talk about gym gear and other working out clothing. I packed my gym bag really badly this morning. I didn’t feel good in my clothes at the gym at all. See for yourself:

The top widens the stomach, the pants are clingy. It doesn’t matter that much workoutwise that the clothes don’t fit that well. But it matters because one has to stare oneself from the mirror all the effin time at the gym (or class).  And it is not fun to look a fat you from the mirror while doing squats. So those pants and that top are not going to the gym with me anymore.

The actual workout was then again good. Bench press finally wasn’t too heavy, so I can try adding more weights next time!

I don’t know what the hell has happened at the gym, but I’m almost willing to bet money that someone has messed with the weights. They were way too heavy to be like they usually are.

I changed squats to Deadlifts and Romanian deadlifts (both 3 * 10 reps with 40kg, 50kg and 60kg weights). If I don’t have Arnold thighs ever, this is to blame.

My gym reports are getting boring. Same old, same old. Arnold and G6. But it’s fun to do! Last time I added weights to all series and today I kept them the same. How come the 40kg in the bench still feels like 100kg? I’m gonna start saying the weights as the feel, instead of what they actually were. “Hey man, I bench pressed about 500kg today! Cool!”

Tough one

Oh my. Today’s gym was tough. I didn’t manage 10-reps in all series, but then again I added weights from last time. Why was the iron so much heavier today than on Thursday? Did someone change the plates or what?

And now, some photo tips to all of you who want to look heavier than they actually are. One: Do not straighten your posture before taking the pic (x). Two: Make sure that you have a weight plate rack behind you (x). Three: Make sure that you and the rack blend nicely, so that the rack adds extra 20 inches to your waist (x). See, something like this:

Snowshoes, sun and Arnold

This blog is turning into Arnold fan blog. Or I’m turning into Arnold’s Golden Six -fan girl! Which isn’t a bad thing. That program is something else. It’s short enough which means it does not get boring. And one doesn’t have to do just legs. Or arms. Let’s see if I still like G6 after this month. But at the moment, I’m a fan. Before the gym I did something else though.

We had a project kickoff day at work. First it was 3 hours in a crowded auditorium, but then it was 3 hours of sun and nice weather outside. We had to choose one activity to do. The choices were kettle bell class, broom ball (a broom and a ball and game is on), soccer (in deep snow), ice fishing and then the one I picked: snowshoe walking. It was fun and hard. But easy! And like usual, walking on water 🙂

After the outdoor activities, most of my co-workers went to eat and have a sauna. I went to the gym. It’s not that I didn’t want to stay and socialize with the others, it was more that I have decided to do 3 G6s/week and next time I’m gonna go is on Sunday. Now I’ll get two days between the gym visits.
